#HaitiFacts ðŸ‡ðŸ‡¹ | The Legacy of Constantin Henriquez de Zubiera: Dream Big, Aim High by James Louis-Charles

Did you know that the first Black athlete to ever win an Olympic gold medal was actually Haitian?
Before Google leads you to American athletes from 1908 or 1924, let’s set the record straight. The very first Black and first Afro-Caribbean Olympic gold medalist was Constantin Henriquez de Zubiera, born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
While studying medicine in Paris, Henriquez competed for France at the 1900 Olympic Games, where he won a gold medal in rugby 🥇. When he returned home, he made history again by helping introduce soccer/football ⚽ to Haiti. His journey stands as a powerful symbol of excellence, resilience, and national pride.
Henriquez’s story reminds every Haitian child that your dreams are valid, your roots are extraordinary, and your potential has no limits.
Starting now, every 1st of the month, I’ll share a new #HaitiFacts to inspire our kids and celebrate the greatness they come from.
