From 1974 to Today: Haiti and DR Congo’s Full-Circle World Cup Journey – by James Louis-Charles

In 1974, two Black nations, Haiti 🇭🇹 and Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of Congo 🇨🇩), made history as the first countries from Africa / African diaspora to qualify for the FIFA World Cup.

52 years later, both nations return to soccer’s biggest stage.

Back then, they competed under different flags:
• Haiti played under a red and black flag
